A Breast Cancer Awareness program was organised in Qayyumabad at the Raast School on 17 March 2015. The leader of this initiative is Atiqa Odho and with the help of Team NA250 and Insaf Community Welfare Society more than 400 women from the Mohalla participated.
Atiqa said that "the importance of self examination techniques and early detection increases success of treatment"
Atiqa Odho is also the Breast Cancer Awareness Ambassador for Power to Empower. In her motivational talk emphasized the importance of self examination and seeking early medical advice. She explained social taboos preventing women from having themselves diagnosed in the early stages hence it leads leading to more fatal consequences. She also recommended to approach a doctor or go to hospital in case of need or even a suspicion.
A cancer survivor, Ms Safia, who is a teacher at Raast shared her journey from pain to survival, which was an inspiration for all to understand self examination and the road to staying healthy
Essa Lab set up a camp inside the Raast School for free blood testing & offered a very sizeable discount on further testing for Qayyumabad women.
Dr. Maria from Essa Laboratory & Diagnostic Centre demonstrated self examination, explaining signs for early detection. She advised getting urgent testing via ultrasound in case of any irregularity. A question and answer session allowed women & young ladies to have their doubts - concerns addressed.
The ladies were provided refreshments, take home dry milk powder packets and other gift items
The ICWS team headed by our ever active Mr Zahid Asghar joins us in sincerely thanking the Mohalla women, Ms Atiqa Odho, hosts Mrs Yasmeen Khan & Mrs Sadia Agha, Dr. Maria, Essa Laboratory & Diagnostic Center Administration, Raast school teachers staff students & management, Dr Seema Zia Chairperson NA250 Health Committee, Mrs Samina Alvi, Mrs Sameen Fouad and Ms Sairah Khalid for making the program highly rewarding.
