I wrote a letter to Chairman PAC to get an investigation done on this issue on June 14, 2016

Mr Khurshid Shah MNA

Chairman Public Accounts Committee.

Dear Sir,

I would like to draw your attention to the fact as reported, that Mr Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB has falsified data to receive pension from the army since after his retirement as Major, in 1982, and that he has continued to do so claiming that he does not draw any salary from any other institution.

I am attaching the following documents with this letter:

  1. The last pay certificate of Mr Qamar Zaman Chaudhry from the army.
  2. The indemnity bond filed by him for depositing of his pension in HBL Supermarket branch Islamabad.
  3. His selection of option for direct credit of his pension deposit into the said bank.
  4. 4.     A copy of a monthly certificate submitted every month since his retirement that states “I declare that I have not received any remuneration for serving in any capacity in a Govt. Estb or any Estb paid from a local fund during the period for which the amount of pension demand in this Bill is due” and continues to state that “Certified that I am not employed any where or I am employed in a Private concern but not in receipt of Dearness increase from any period”

NAB is an organization that is entrusted to find, investigate and then prosecute all those who are involved in any corruption. This case seems to be similar to that of the previous Auditor General of Pakistan who had drawn salary enhancements and emoluments that were not legal. You as PAC Chairman, had constituted a sub-committee of which I was a member, and the report of which was submitted that finally resulted in the removal of the Auditor General of Pakistan.

In this similar instance, I strongly urge you to order an investigation in this matter that may be conducted by the office of Auditor General who may give a report as soon as possible for the consideration of the Public Accounts Committee.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Arif Alvi MNA

Member Public Accounts Committee
